The Google Business Profile checklist for tradies

Your profile decides whether you show up on the map — and whether people tap “Call”. Here’s what to check, in order of impact.

1. Get your categories right

Your primary category matters most. Then add every extra category that honestly describes work you do. Missing categories are the most common reason a trade doesn’t show for half its services.

Nothing added that you don't actually do

2. List every service

Google uses your services list to match you to searches. Be specific: “hot water system replacement” beats “plumbing”.

Your most profitable services first

3. Set your service areas

If customers don’t come to you, hide your address and list the suburbs or cities you serve. Keep it realistic — Google still weighs distance.

4. Keep it active

Profiles with recent photos, posts and review replies look alive — to Google and to customers. Aim for something new every week.

5. Make calling easy

Check your phone number, hours and website link are right everywhere. A wrong number on the map is a job handed to a competitor.
